In this Environment day, Corporate360 come together and combat the great environmental challenge: Curbing plastic usage. Environment might be one of the most important treasures we have. In order to raise awareness & beat plastic pollution, our team conducted awareness classes for students.
Protect Our Environment, SAY NO TO PLASTIC
Here are few steps and best practices we like to share with you on how to avoid plastic usage from our daily lives.
1. Say no to all plastic bags & packages as far as possible
Use reusable containers, glass jars and reusable bottles for daily consumables like storing food, cooking-oil, detergents, shampoo etc.
2. Avoid disposable cups & tableware. Use the compostable kind
Use washable and reusable cups, plates or utensils. When using compostable tableware, be aware they will not biodegrade in a landfill and must be disposed of in appropriate composting conditions.
3. Use reusable shopping bags
Using cloth / jute / reusable shopping bags is one simple way to lessen your use of plastics. Plastic bags are an eyesore and are dangerous to wildlife. Insist your local retailers to use cloth bags & educate them the ill effects of plastics.
4. Get rid of plastic bottles & plastic cups
People are meant to drink lots of water each day, and plastic water bottles & plastic cups are used in this regard. However, most of these are only recommended for single use, and that means that every time someone finishes a bottle or cup, it goes into the trash. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill.
5. Say “No Plastic straw” please
Plastic Straws are another commonly used plastic products in our daily lives. In most cases, drinking out of a straw is simply unnecessary.
6. Responsible waste disposal
Keep two garbage bins and see to it that the biodegradable and the non-biodegradable is put into separate bins and dispose off separately. Dig a compost pit in your garden and put all the biodegradables into it.
7. Avoid plastic banners & fluxes
Avoid using plastic banners & fluxes for marketing election programs, festivals & other public events. Using cloth-based banner is a simple solution to avoid plastics.
8. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
The three R’s – reduce, reuse and recycle – all help to cut down on the amount of plastic waste we throw away. REDUCE the single-use plastic in your life, REUSE the plastics you have already & RECYCLE used plastics. At the supermarket look for products with recyclable packaging.
World Environment Day – which is observed on 5 June every year across the globe – is the largest annual event for positive environmental action. With “Beat Plastic Pollution” as the theme for this year’s edition, the world is coming together to combat single-use plastic pollution. Environmentally, plastic is a growing disaster. Plastic packaging – especially the ubiquitous plastic bag – is a significant source of landfill waste and is regularly eaten by numerous marine and land animals lead to fatal consequences. Each year, at least 8 million tonnes of plastics leak into the ocean – which is equivalent to dumping the contents of one garbage truck into the ocean every minute. Plastic is now ubiquitous in our terrestrial, aquatic and airborne environments – that is, it’s everywhere. Synthetic plastic does not biodegrade. It just sits and accumulates in landfills or pollutes the environment. Plastics that have been accumulated for years have raised a huge threat to Earth biodiversity. This also leads to climate change.
The plastic industry creates billions and billions of carbon pollution every year, which is the key cause of climate change. For starters, most plastic is made from oil or gas which are fossil fuels that in turn use other fossil fuels to be extracted from the ground. Instead of using plastic for everything and anything, we could limit it to use in medicine and hospitals where plastic can be lifesaving in terms of preventing contamination and disease. Problems like plastic pollution and climate change don’t exist in isolation. They all stem from the way we as a society live our lives day to day.
